He Has Gone WAY Too Far!

It has been awhile since I blogged about the Combat Zone.  I felt after casting judgment on my employer, DJ Hyde, the last time I should cool it a bit so I don’t have my pay withheld…  Which he obviously likes to do now, just ask Necro Butcher.  However, I stand by my statements.  Just like I stand by every single negative thing I’ve said in recent months about The BLK Jeez.

Now I’m sure you’ve all noticed by now that I am a bit of a “goodie two shoes.”  I know that I am…  I’ve always been since I was a kid.  But I also speak my mind.  I can’t stand when things are “correct.”  Am I always right?   No.  As you’ve heard my commentary and read my blogs, I have been very judgmental of Philly’s Most Wanted.  I thought that maybe I was being a little too harsh on them.  Sure BLK Jeez won the Tag Team Championships back by the use of Brass Knux…  But we’re in the Combat Zone, and we’ve seen people win championships with things worse than a pair of knux.  Sure it wasn’t legal in that match, but the point remains.

Just as I thought I was being a little too judgmental, I was once again proven correct this past weekend.  Maven Bentley required Jeez to apologize at the New Heights.  Instead he assaulted a fan and got into a physical altercation with our Vice President!  At one point, I thought Jake, Rob, and I were going to have to restrain the Tag Team Champion!  That is how out of control the situation got.

Let me take a moment to apologize for all the exclamation points as I am furious about what I’m going to talk about next.

If that weren’t bad enough, Sunday at Acid Fest 2…  Jeez went WAY over the line!  Acid Fest 2 was not a CZW event, but lots of CZW stars both past and present competed to honor the late Trent Acid…  Someone who I can call a friend and a mentor.  Now I know I can’t say I’m as close to him as others, but I still knew him very well.  When I was asked to call Acid Fest again this year, I was more than honored.  The event itself was most definitely an afternoon Trent would have loved to be a part of.  The event was jam-packed with his friends, not to mention that his neighborhood and family lined the entire first row!  But of course there had to be someone to ruin the fun.  I’m sure you can guess who it was…  The BLK Jeez!

Sunday afternoon was NOT about championships…  It was NOT about marketing the CZW product…  It was not about making a name for yourself…  It was about honoring a friend by putting on an afternoon of WRESTLING.  It was about having FUN…  Something Trent would have wanted!  It was something I was having until the middle of the show, when Jeez took it upon himself to make a mockery of Trent!  Why he was even scheduled in a match in the first place is beyond me…  But to rip a button that honored Trent Acid off of one of his closest friends and then shove him around after the man just had his neck halo removed is beyond disgusting!  Meanwhile this all happened in front of Trent’s mother!  I was embarrassed because he and Joker were representing CZW at this event and for them to act the way they did is a travesty!  I still can’t believe after all that on Sunday Joker still had the intestinal fortitude to defend Jeez!

On Saturday Devon Moore granted Jeez a World Title Shot because he was simply tired of Jeez and wanted to teach him a lesson.  But after Sunday, Devon…  Someone else I call a friend…  Will surely use the actions of Jeez at the event that honored his trainer and friend as fuel in that lumberjack strap match!  Hell…  I’m willing to be there will be a long line of people in the locker room wanting to be assigned as lumberjacks!  That’s not to mention all the fans that will have a chance to be lumberjacks should they get a raffle ticket on August 13th.

For a long time I was with the fans of CZW begging for Maven and DJ Hyde to fire Jeez.  We all know why that will never happen.  So I say now…  Keep him on the roster!  Because he will make the Combat Zone a ton of money on ticket sales and iPPV sales at HybridENT.tv!  Why?  Because right now I will work for free on Saturday August 13th to see Devon Moore and the fans of CZW batter the BLK Jeez with leather straps!  A man who has the gall of disrespecting the legacy of a man I call a friend deserves all the ill he will receive on August 13th!

God forgive me for all the hate in this…  But even you have got to admit there is something wrong with this man who claims to be the second coming of Christ!

I’ll see you all Saturday August 13th on iPPV!

The Must See Event

Working in the wrestling business…  Hell, just being a fan of this sport…  You know there are certain happenings and events that you just want to be able to witness.  This Saturday is one of those events.

Entering the wrestling business back in 2006 as a commentator, I knew I had to develop a bucket list for my wrestling career.  Now I never sat down and wrote that list down anywhere or really ever mentioned it to anyone.  I just formulated that list in my head and kept it to myself.  I know people close to me wonder why I get so excited and driven by certain things this business has produced and not others.  But they just don’t get it until they witness it for themselves.  Saturday is one of those events that I know people question…  “It’s just another wrestling show, Dan.”

You, the Combat Zone, know why I am amped for this Saturday’s event.  This isn’t just “another wrestling show.”  This Saturday is BEST OF THE BEST X!  This, just like Cage of Death, is one of those events I heard about for years.  When I was on the outside looking in, I knew that this was the event that Junior Heavyweights needed to win.  They needed to win this event so people could say that he is “a somebody.”  Look at the list of winners (http://www.czwrestling.com/titlehistory/#BOTB)…  It’s a who’s who of wrestling!  Trent Acid…  This is a guy who our current number one contender, Devon Moore, patterns himself after!  There’s the internationally traveled, Sonjay Dutt.  There aren’t really any conquests that the “Playa from the Himalaya” hasn’t accomplished.  Look at the last four winners:  Egotistico Fantastico (Robert Anthony), BLK Jeez, Joker, and Ruckus…  Two of the men went on to become CZW World Champions (Ruckus and Ego).  The other two (BLK Jeez and Joker) have captured pretty much every other belt CZW has to offer…  Including reigning together as CZW World Tag Team Champions!

Personal opinions aside, all the men on the list were fantastic talents prior to winning their respective Best of the Best Tournament.  However, would they be where they are now if they hadn’t?  Would Trent Acid have become the “International Superstar” if he didn’t win Best of the Best 2?  Would we still be talking about the now legendary matches between Drake Younger and B-Boy if B-Boy didn’t win Best of the Best 3?  Just look at the numbers…  There have been about 83 men who have entered the tournament.  Tack on this year’s 11 first timers (Sami Callihan was in the last Best of the Best) and you have around 94 men.  Out of 94 men, so far only 9 men have gone on to win Best of the Best…  Number 10 is this year.  10 out of 94 can claim this award.  Talk about a prestigious award.  Like the winners or not, that statistic speaks volumes for the winner.

Let’s take it one step further…  Let us talk about the guys who just participate in the tournament.  Each of the 94 men had their own journey to gain berth into their respective tournament.  Whether they were chosen or forced to qualify, every man that has enter was deserving of their shot.  I have never heard a fan or a fellow wrestler or wrestling official ever say “Well why is ________ in Best of the Best?”  For a lot of men it’s a badge of honor to say “I was in Best of the Best.”  For some of those same men, it drives them to work even harder.  Ryan McBride is an example of that.  I saw a fire in his eyes that I never seen before as he realized his chances are entering slipped away with each qualifying round loss in the months leading up to this year’s mega-event.  For a man like Sami Callihan, he’s been to the finals.  He had a taste of that glory that Trent Acid, BLK Jeez, Joker, Ruckus, etc. have gotten.  I know that feeling is driving him to capture the trophy this year, if he will actually accomplish that goal is a whole different discussion.

So why am I so excited?  That’s an easy answer…  After looking at all those stats I just listed, on Saturday night we will witness the birth of the next big star in the Combat Zone!  Whether it be the man I voted for here on CZWrestling.com, Jonathan Gresham, or one of the other 11, no matter what the winner not on gets the trophy and the prestige…  But they get right onto the fast track to wrestling immortality!

Until Saturday…  You stay classy, Combat Zone.

There is Justice!

On Saturday February 12th, the Combat Zone finally saw justice!  The Briscoe Brothers once again became CZW World Tag Team Champions.  I was right there at ringside to see it all unfold and it was GREAT!  It was great to just see the puss on BLK Jeez’s face as the Briscoes celebrated.

For weeks the BLK Jeez has been the center of controversy here in CZW.  If you’ve been to the events, you may have had a run-in with Jeez.  It is well known how much of a nuisance (and that’s keeping it nice) he is to the CZW audience.  I know there is footage out from one of CZW’s trips out of the Philadelphia area were he had an altercation with an older CZW fan.  Hell…  My first experience with BLK Jeez happened about 4 years ago when I was ring announcing a small event for another wrestling outfit.  After the match, Jeez unprovoked came after ME!  Now I know being in the wrestling business for the last five years that commentators and ring announcers like myself sometimes “get in the way.”  But this one incident has been in my head for years.  I still to this day don’t know why that happened.

So to see Joker and BLK Jeez more importantly lose the straps was just FANTASTIC.  Now I have been working in the wrestling business for five year…  Which isn’t a long time.  However, in my short time I have seen many people with the attitude of BLK Jeez squander their career away.  I will say that he is a very lucky man.  Like him or not, Jeez is an extremely gifted wrestler and his abilities show that he deserves the titles that he has won.  BUT…  Eventually Jeez’s antics will catch up with him.  Thinking about it…  They may already have!  The Briscoes are the guys with the straps right now.

On the other side of the coin, Joker really has got to separate himself from Jeez.  Now I have known Joker for the same amount of time as Jeez, and I will never understand why he stays around Jeez.  Joker over the years has become more and more of a force inside the squared circle.  When I hear the term “strong style wrestling” I think of “The Cambodian Axe Murderer.”  Joker is every bit as gifted as Jeez, if not MORE gifted!  But I have never, ever, had a single bad encounter with him.  Why is he with Jeez?  Jeez is clearly calling the shots.  I mean did Joker really want to walk out of the match in January?  Maybe he did, but I don’t know.  The point is, you’re only as respected as the company you keep.  If Joker wants to continue his association with Jeez, then he better accept the consequences.  And right now that means, Joker is NOT a champion in CZW.

I’m sure, however, that its only a matter of a day or two before we hear from Philly’s Most Wanted.  I’m sure they’ll have some bizarre claim that they should still be the champions.  But I’m sure that the Briscoes will MAN UP like they always do and prove why they are truly the BEST tag team in the world!

Until next time…  You stay classy Combat Zone,
Dan Cowhey
